On Saturday last, the first social run of the season was held. One of the first canons of a cross-country club is that "runs shall take place in all weathers."
Unfortunately this seems to have been forgotten by a lot of members on Saturday, with the result that only a party of about 25 entrained for West Kirby instead of the number expected. The headquarters for the day we at the Black Horse, Grange, and from here the captain piloted the pack via Newton and Frankby to Thurstaston Common, finishing along the road to Grange. The run in spite of (or perhaps because of) the weather was delightful, and the resulting display of tea was enough to have made a confirmed old dyspeptic tumble over himself in his anxiety to fill in an entrance form. Tea was followed by a sing-song, and all the old "stars" (?) besides a good many new ones went through the severe classical track for which the club is noted. Several members of the Liscard A.C. were present and greatly helped towards the success of the evening.
Next Saturday the first serious run takes place in the Liverpool & District monster meet. The distance covered will be about four or five miles, finishing up with mile breaks for seniors and juniors. Meet at the Liverpool Town Hall at 2-30 to take car for the Knotty Ash Hotel, from where the run takes place. As Wallasey Harriers are making a splendid endeavour to have a large turnout, will every member make an effort to be present.
