The members of the above club had a busy time over the week-end at various sports meetings, and though there were several disappointments, these were more than balanced by the successes.
R. McDonough, the promising athlete from the local police force, followed up his second in the mile walk at the Liverpool Police Sports by gaining a second in the open mile walk at Royton on Saturday. He has improved a lot and should make a good show in the 14 mile walk at Manchester on the 23rd. P. Scott, after running second to Sep Francom at Rainford in a 2 mile team race on Saturday week, where Wallasey took 3rd team place, was the individual winner of a similar event at Royton, and followed this up by being placed second in the mile at Southport on Monday.
The best performance, however, was undoubtedly the splendid riding of Duguid at New Brighton Tower on Monday, where he landed the double event, the lap and half-mile cycle. He has improved wonderfully this season, and is now without doubt a rider to be reckoned with. His appearance at Salford Police Sports next week will be watched for with deep interest.
A couple of members' handicaps will be run this afternoon on the Tower track at 3-30. 1,000 yards and 300 yards.
