Those members of the above club who promised to go to St. Helens last week, but who did not turn up, can hold themselves responsible for being the cause of the club suffering its first defeat in an inter-club run tor two years.
Only seven men, five of whom were novices, made the journey, while Ravenhead Harriers mustered 38. Despite this fact Wallasey's gallant seven challenged Ravenhead to a mile break, counting the first four home. The result was disastrous to the local Club, who, although they managed, to place three men in the first five, were beaten by five points. The great feature of the race was the splendid running of P. Scott, of Wallasey, who since joining the club a month ago, has improved wonderfully, and who will undoubtedly made a few of the old brigade wake up ere long. The placings were as follows:-Wallasey, P. Scott, 2; E. Skate, 4; H. R. Scoins, 5; W. J. Pinfold. 11, Total. 22. Ravenhead's placings were 1, 3, 6, 7, Total 17.
This week a Novice Team race is to be held in connection with the Liverpool & District Cross-country Association and the following men have been chosen to represent Wallasey :-E. Figueiredo, J. Garnett, T. Hughes, G. Lowes, F. H. Moon, P. Scott. Reserve, J. Williams. For those not taking part in this race there will be an ordinary run from headquarters, commencing 3-30 prompt.
