The above club held the first of their series of evening meetings on Wednesday last at the Tower track, when the events to be competed for were 100 yards and one mile flat. Although there was not as good an attendance of members as one would have hoped, the racing was very keen, and everyone present appreciated it fully.
The 100 yards event was won by C. Hunter (6 yards) in very good time from C. H. Spence (scratch), J. J. Eivers being third. The mile handicap was framed from the Wallasey stalwart, E. Plant. The first man home was R. J. Lowes (100 yards) who taking the lead in the second lap, well maintained it, until the straight was reached when C. H. Spence (30 yards) challenged him, and a very good finish ensued. Lowes winning by about 5 yards. The third man was A. G. Scoins (125 yards).
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, the 28th inst., when the events arranged are 220 yards and half-mile flat.
In spite of the split in the club, and the formation of the New Brighton A.C. under N.A.U. laws the Wallasey club have only lost about three or four of their runners, and at present everything points to a very successful season during the coming winter. Anyone wishing to join the club should communicate with the hon. secretary. Mr. P. Scott, of 103, Manor-road, Liscard, who will be pleased to any information required.
