The above club held their first handicap last Saturday, the distance being about six miles. The handicap was framed from T. J. Brookes and starts ran out to 6 minutes.
There was a very good muster and some keen racing ensued. Two miles from home H. Syson (3.45) held the lead, closely followed by F. Tennant (3.30) and H. Green (4.30), but when 300 yards from the finish Green unfortunately got the "stitch" and had to retire which placed Geo. Newnes (4.30) third. There was a desperate finish between Syson and Tennant, the former winning by about three yards. The fastest time was done, by T. J. Brookes, the scratch man, his Actual Time being 33 mins 5 secs. The times and placings of the first six were as follows:-
Actual Time. Start.
1. H. Syson 35.20 3.45
2. F. Tennant 35.8 3.30
3. G. Newnes 37.30 4.30
4. G. Wilcox 37.4 4.0
5. T. J. Brookes 33.5 sctch.
6. E. H. Miles 37.20 4.0
