The above club held their first inter-club run on Saturday last, when together with Pembroke and Seaforth Harriers, they visited City Harriers, at their headquarters St. Alan's Schools, Walton.
Altogether about 60 runners took part, and they were in charge of the home captain, H. Adelsburg. A course of about 5 miles of road and country was taken, finishing with a mile break along Queen's-drive, Walton. New Brighton won by the narrow margin of eight points, after a splendid race, in which they where materially assisted by Ted Cannon, one of their new members. A few years ago Cannon was one of the finest cross-country runners in the Liverpool district, and New Brighton are indeed fortunate in securing his services on his return to the cross-country world. Before the race he informed the writer that he did not think he would compete in the "break," but when the men lined up, his fighting spirit was evidently aroused as he promptly took off his sweater and toed the line. The placings were as follows:-
New Brighton A.C. - T. J. Brookes 3, H. R. Scoins 6, Ted Cannon 12, H. Syson 14, W. J. Pinfold 15, F. Tennant 18, total 68 points. City Harriers 76 points, Pembroke Harriers 78 points, Seaforth 87 points.
To-day the club hold their first Handicap of the season - 5 miles - from headquarters, Grove Pavilion, Wallasey.
Next Saturday they will complete in the N.A.U. open handicap from the People's Hall, Aigburth.
