The West Lancashire C.C. and novice team race, which was held last Saturday from Higher Tranmere, was rather disappointing from a local point of view, the Wallasey team only taking fourth place, when much better things were expected from it. A. G. Scoins (8), V. Hughes (11), and S. Hodgson (17) in finishing as they did showed really good form, and are to be congratulated.
The first two have improved out of all knowledge, and will doubtless prove to be of great service to the club in the future. The latter, one of this season's finds, who won the local novice championship with two minutes to spare, will also go far in the running world with due care and attention. The placings for the race were as follows :-
1st, Runcorn Tally-ho. 22 points; 2nd, Ravenhead H. (St. Helens), 33 points; 3rd, Warrington Harriers, 37 points; 4th, Wallasey Harriers, 93 points. The fourth man home for Wallasey was S. Spence, 57.
To-day a club run will be held from headquarters, the Christmas handicap being fixed for this day fortnight.
The time for serious work is now almost on us, and it behoves all those aspiring for a place in the team for the championship to begin to get themselves in trim, as with such new talent in the club the selection will undoubtedly go by merit alone.
