Under glorious weather conditions, the above held the first of the season's handicaps (five miles) from the Thorndale Farm, Wallasey-road, on Saturday.
Fifteen athletes faced the starter (Mr. A. G. Nicholson), including a few prodigals whose return to the fold was very welcome. The course was a good racing test, comprising plenty of meadowland, a little plough, and a few good natural obstacles, such as the Birket, &c., and a good mile of road at the finish. The first to arrive home was T. M. Hughes, from the three minutes' mark, who ran really well to register his first win. That game young plodder, A. G. Scoins, ran consistently to finish second off 1 min. 30 secs., just in front of J. Eivers one of the long start brigade. Fastest time was done by A G. Scoins.
To-day (Saturday) Wallasey A.C. journey to Thatto Heath, St. Helens, to run their old friends and rivals, Ravenhead Harriers. Meet at two o'clock underneath the clock, at Lime-street Station. Will the captain please note? A good turnout is requested and expected.
The club's annual dance takes place at the Grosvenor Assembly Rooms on November 21st.
