The annual championships of the Liverpool Cross-Country Association were decided at the Wirral Showground at Bebington on Saturday, and were well patronised both as regarded competitors and spectators.
More than ordinary interest attached to the novice championship owing to the fact that a handsome silver challenge cup, presented by the proprietors of the Liverpool Courier & Express, was competed for for the first time. Twelve clubs turned out teams, and after an interesting race the laurels went to Ravenhead Harriers with 89 points. The Wallasey A.C. made a fine fight for the trophy, and but for the very belated appearance of their last-placed man they would have gained an easy victory. The first dozen men to finish, together with the placings of the first three clubs, were as under :
1. L. Drinkwater, St. Helens Recreation.
2, H. H. Herbert, Liverpool Boundary H.
3, H. Wilcock, Ravenhead A.C.
4. J. W. Fraser, Southport H. & A.C.
6, T. J. Brookes, Wallasey.
5, T. Burley, St. Helens Recreation.
7, J. McGuffog, Liverpool Boundary.
8. J, D. Jones, Wallasey.
9. F. L. Thornton, Wallasey.
10, D. Large, Ravenhead.
11, E. S. Bale, Wallasey.
12, W. H. Mason, Liverpool Oddfellows.
