On Saturday the above Club met the Ravenhead Harriers, the Liverpool & District Junior Champions, at Wallasey. Despite the unfavourable conditions, there was a good muster of runners, the pack numbering about thirty.
The course was altered somewhat, about a mile of shore being included. A distance of about six miles was covered at a " go-as-you-please" pace prior to a race over the last mile. There was a good amount of fun en route, once when Maguire tried to lose himself in the bulrushes (who said his first name was Moses?), and again when C. H. Spence, while searching for a gap in the hedge, found that there was a considerable amount of mud in the ditch underneath. The result of the mile break was that Wallasey won by the handsome margin of 51 points, placing six men in the first seven home. Details: Wallasey. - A. G. Nicholson 1, R. Young 2, R. J. Lowes 3, W. J. Pinfold 5, H. R. Scoins 6, H. J. Smyth 7; total 24.
Ravenhead. - J. Scarisbrook 4, H. Lee 9, J. Crane 12, R. Caine 15, H. Naylor 17, P. T. Rothwell 18; total 75.
The first novice to arrive was H. J. Smyth, who ran very well. Smyth has a very nice style, and should become a very good runner in the near future. Another promising novice was T. Garnett, who was out on Saturday for the first time. He shaped very well, and should prove an acquisition to the club.
