The unsettled state of the weather was doubtless to some extent the cause of the rather sparse muster of the above club when they were visited by Edgehill Harriers on Saturday.
Yet a very enjoyable run of about five miles was taken. Keeping clear of the heavy land, which savoured too much of the mud bath, the Homecroft captain made the pace from Manor-road, via Seaview-road, across the fields to the brow of Wallasey Village, then to Grove-road, and round the Warren to Molyneux-drive, at which point the teams lined up for the usual burst homewards, the result of which was as follows :-
Homecroft. Edgehill.
W. S. Brookes 6 J. Easton 4
P. T. Monks 9 C. Couves 7
E. Platt 11 W. Hacker 8
G. Booth 12 J. Hunter 19
Total 46 Total 32
Homecroft were indeed unfortunate, for to the absence of Barley, Thomas, Parry, Rothery, and Jones must be ascribed this lamentable issue. On the other hand, the Edgehill representatives included T. Berry, the well-known miler, and Jason Tennant, a winner of the L. & D.C.C.A. Championship on three occasions. T. J. Brookes was only beaten by about ten yards, a commendable performance, and one that augurs well for this youngster's future. Another good display was that of Platt in finishing eleventh, for this was his first attempt at running.
To-day (Saturday) Homecroft are confronted with the most formidable task on their fixture card, when they are to entertain North Liverpool (Y.M.C.A.) Gymnasium Harriers at Manor-road. A start will be made at 3 30, and an easy course of about six miles will be taken, finishing with a mile break along Seabank-road at about 4-30.
