From all points of view this gathering, which took place at Aintree on Saturday, must be regarded as a success. Five clubs took part, viz , Manchester, Warrington, Liverpool Gymnasium, North Liverpool Gymnasium and Homecroft.
The clubs mustered well, and the pack, numbering some 76 runners, took a course of about seven miles over excellent country. The day was rather "draughty," but the pace was regulated to a nicety, while the high spirits of those engaged helped to make it an exceedingly enjoyable outing. The run concluded with a mile break, and J. S. Gilbertson (N.L.G ) arrived home first, Nowack (Manchester) being second, and T. J. Brookes and J. B. Barley (both of Homecroft) third and fourth respectively. The Inter-club race resulted as follows :- North Liverpool Gymnasium. 36 points ; Homecroft, 61 points ; and Manchester, 101 points. But the proceedings were of a sociable rather than a competitive nature. After the run the gathering settled down to a substantial tea, followed by a smoking concert, when the real purpose of the gathering was not lost sight of, everyone contributing to the programme with considerable gusto, Mr Tom Williams presided, and his characteristic humour contributed in no small measure to the success of the evening. Musical and recitative items were supplied by Messrs Barley, Dickinson, Gilbertson, Hale, and others, while choruses were quite a feature. The thanks of the clubs invited were tendered to the joint committee who had the arrangements in hand, the hope also being expressed on behalf of Homecroft that they might be able to invite the various clubs to visit Wallasey next season for what promises to become an annual event.
