Owing to the holidays, this club - as a club - is having a quiet time, there being no particular appointments for last Saturday or to-day.
Several members went for a jog-trot of about four miles last Saturday, which proved most enjoyable. Greater interests, however, led a similar contingent to the Tower track, where they indulged in suitable training for the sports promoted by Liverpool City Football Club at Stanley on Christmas Day. In the eighty yards dash Percy Cook just failed to win his heat, while W. S. Brookes succeeded, only to fail, however, by being "left on his mark" in the final. Tipping, Homecroft's representative in the bicycle handicap, met a similar fate, for, after winning his heat in easy style, he succumbed to the dexterous manipulation of his rivals' machines in the final scramble. There were fifty entrants for the three miles flat handicap, three of whom were S. Gurnell, J. D. Jones, and G. Mole. None of these were too hopeful as to the issue of the contest, but as the number of the laps to go became smaller, the chances of Jones grew brighter, and when entering on the last mile he was running third. He was eventually caught by S. Francom, of Sefton Harriers, and it soon became evident that the result of the race lay between these two. About 150 yards from the winning post Jones skipped away from his antagonist, and making a revelation of speed which surprised the spectators, and the less, he won by a in 15 minutes 37 se man was W. He Beg sion Harriers. 1'41
