The track season opens on Saturday, May 25th, with the first combined meeting, under the auspices of the Liverpool & District Fields Events League and the Liverpool N.C.A.A. Committee, at the Oval, Port Sunlight.
The events will include pole vault, hammer, discus, long jump, 4 by 220 yards relay and 3 mile team race. All the Merseyside clubs will be competing and Wallasey A.C. will be making every effort to get away to a good start in both competitions. They were second to Liverpool Harriers in the field events league in 1939, and given a reasonable amount of support, may add the J. D. Sangster Trophy to the existing collection.
Local athletics have not been well catered for in the past and as the national emergency has commandeered almost every available open space in the borough, it appeared that we would be homeless again. Limited facilities have, however, become available to us, and it is hoped that the 'scarlet runners' will be able to bring home even more athletic honours than before.
Prospective members of the club, both junior and senior, should communicate with the track secretary, Mr. B. Kivlin, 42 Clarendon Road, so that they may be acquainted with the full season's programme, and consequent training and coaching programmes.
