Wallasey Athletic Club secured the 'double' when they defeated Liverpool Harriers on the home course from Green Lane, Wallasey Village, in their second match run of the season.
John Edwards of Wallasey, put up the record for the course, finishing first in 26 mins. 30 secs.
Wallasey A.C. juniors, led by the youths' captain G. A. Walker were narrowly beaten by Liverpool juniors most of whom have had three years experience. The Wallasey youth team commenced training in October and has steadily progressed. Today faster times over the 4/12 miles course were recorded for every single runner. Denis Kelly, in particular, completed the course in 31:01, five minutes better than his previous time. To-day, Wallasey A.C. take both senior and junior teams across to Broad Green, Liverpool to meet the famous Liverpool Pembroke Harriers. Rendezvous at Liverpool Landing Stage bookstall at 2 p.m. prompt.
Next Saturday the Christmas Handicap will be held. This is one of the most popular events of the year and every member capable of trotting round a three mile course will take part. Even vice-presidents have been known to compete. Wherever the runners finish they get a prize. His worship the Mayor (Alderman W. B. Millward, J.P.) himself a vice-president of the club, will be present to watch the race and to present the prizes. Messages of greetings will be read out from numerous members in the Forces.
It was a great pleasure to see H. R. Stanley home on leave from the Forces, and he ran well to come in 7th in the senior race.
A most successful dance was held on December 7th, and through these columns the club would like to thank its supporters, and members. They hope to run another one some time in the New Year.
