After a long period of away fixtures, which has lasted since the first week of this year, Wallasey Athletic Club return to their own headquarters in Leasowe Road today and next Saturday for two important fixtures, for which the active support of all members is urged, since many duties have to be discharged, such as course marking and hospitality in addition to the work of team runners.
Today the Liverpool & District 1950 youths & junior champions, Liverpool Boundary Harriers, and another well-known local club, Liverpool Harriers, visit Wallasey. Next week a new fixture team of Youths to compete against W.A.C. over the 5 mile appears on the card. H.M.S. Conway, now, at Llanfair P.G., Anglesey, are sending a big course which includes one lap of Bidston Hill. The race will start at 3 p.m. so an earlier attendance than usual will be required for W.A.C. members.
A news item of interest to local athletes is that next spring the 'National' of cross-country running, the English Cross-Country Union Championships will be held at Arrowe Park. A record entry has been received for this year's 'National' at Aylesbury next Saturday which indicates the growing national interest in the sport, and we look forward to a record local entry when the big race is on our own doorstep next year.
