Wallasey Athletic Club junior members, Don Anderson and Bob Fullerton, scored excellent successes during the weekend.
In the fast time of 2 mins. Anderson won the 880 yards (15-17 age group) at the Schools Athletic Association's National championships at Southampton, on Saturday, and Fullerton covered the quarter-mile in 51.75secs. at the inter-club match at Northwich on Sunday.
Sunday's match result was: Stockport Harriers, 53 points; W.A.C., 41 points; Winnington Park & Castner Kellner, 36 points; Sale Harriers, 27 points; and Crewe Harriers A.C., 13 points.
Ray Owen achieved a triple win in the discus (110ft. 6½ins.), long jump (19ft. 8ins), and the shot, plus a second place in the javelin. (134ft. 2ins.). Of the W.A.C. girls, Mavis Ashworth indicated her true ability by taking the high jump at 4ft. 7ins., and she also won the javelin event. New member, Joyce Greenslade gained a creditable third place in the closely contested sprint final.
Last week Liverpool Harriers defeated W.A.C. at Leasowe Road by 126 points to 75. Winners for W.A.C. included Owen (discus, 111ft. 4ins.), Fullerton (440 yards, 53.4secs.), McFarland (880 yards, 2mins.. 5.1secs.), Ken Ledward (junior mile, 4mins. 57.2sees), and Mavis Ashworth (high, jump, 4ft. 7ins.).
