In the senior category John Prydderch's 10.4 secs for the 100 yards and Matt Smith's 5ft. 8ins. high jump were the best track and field performances respectively at the conclusion of Wallasey Athletic Club's 1950 athletic championships. Which were completed last Saturday at Leasowe Road.
Runners-up were Arnold Dinsdale (3 miles, in 15 mins. 50 secs.), and Olatunde Lawrence (20ft. 5ins. long jump).
Bob Fullerton was the outstanding junior athlete of the year. In addition to passing 5 standards his 2 mins. 8 secs. for the half and 4ft. 8ins. in the high jump were not bettered by any other junior performance. Runners-up were Eric Maddock (3 miles in 16mins 35secs.) and Ken Bradshaw (34ft. 7ins. hop, step and jump).
Penny Price was unmistakably the best woman athlete. Her 100 yds. in 11.9 secs. won her the women's award, and her high jump of 4ft. 7 ins. also surpassed any other woman's performance. However the runner-up award was made to Beryl Hallam for her second place in the 100 yds. in 12 secs.
The presentation of these awards by the club president, Mr. A. G. Nicholson, will be made at the annual general meeting next month.
The secretary, Mr. Ron Hubbard, will be pleased to receive nominations for club officers.
Cross-Country training will begin this afternoon when a small pack will be running from the Girl Guide Association premises at Leasowe Road at 3 p.m.
