There were no surprises in this years Wallasey Athletic Club championships but this did not detract from the appreciation of the fine running of the club champions.
In the senior event, nine miles, A. Dinsdale ran on true form to finish
comfortably in first place in the good time of 58 mins. 1 sec. This in the second year that he has held the trophy. E. C. Foster, who was second, ran his best race this season; D. Dickinson was third.
Bob Johnston, for the third year in succession, was an easy winner in the junior 7 miles in the time of 43 mins. 23 secs. This makes him the first man in the club's history to hold this cup for three successive years.
R. Scammell ran a very well judged race to finish second with R. Fullerton third.
The youths' race, three miles, proved to be most keenly contested, with a close battle between the leading runners. Six seconds only divided the first two places, while the third man won not far behind. K. Ledward 19 mins. 52 secs. was the winner, E. Maddock was second, with H. Foot third.
This Saturday the seniors and juniors visit Liverpool Harriers with R.A.F. West Kirby, Boundary Harriers and Liverpool University. The youths are meeting Liverpool University II, Boundary Harriers and Liverpool Harriers youths, at Mather Avenue.
All members are asked to meet at Pier Head at 2 o'clock.
