Escape from Meriden Ultra - Saturday 18 November 2017
In Meriden, a 500 year old cross marks the centre of England, runners had 24 hours to get as far from Meriden as they could travel on foot. Runners were supplied with a race drone gps tracker, any steps away from a direct route were wasted as they result was based on as the crow flies miles. Nick and Sallie Holt set off on this daunting task, completing over 57 as the crow flies miles. After pulling out Sallie said "Been trying to walk it off so we could run again since about 9 this morning, but it was only getting worse, so we decided to do the sensible thing and call time. So disappointed but, we did Escape and in trying to get what we wanted to achieve, I ran further than I ever have before. Body just said no more this time! But best of all we've received so many generous donations this year for Love, Jasmine and all the wonderful work they do. Thanks everyone for their encouragement and generosity.". Sallie and Nick have raised over £1750 so far. Photos

Apocalypse 50 - 50 Miles - Saturday 20 May 2017
Steve said "Apocalypse 50 mile Ultra, 50 miles of hilly trail (about 10,000 ft). Race consists of four "loops" of varying distance and climb. Loops are pleasantly called Famine, War, Conquest and Death. Each loop starts and finishes at a school in Church Stretton which is surrounded by the Shropshire hills. You can run each loop in any order and direction you like. All self guide, no marshalls on course (you carry a "passport" to clip different boxes at various unmanned checkpoints to prove you've done the proper route. Despite it being much wetter and muddier than last year I knocked 44 minutes of my previous time to finish in 12:14 (15th place). So a well deserved rest tomorrow ? Err no, I'm doing Excalibur Marathon (slowly) and of course the ace Wallasey AC support team (Kareen) was there all day to look after me." Photos

The organisers claimed the Northumberland coastline boasts some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the UK and is best known for its sweeping sandy beaches, rolling dunes, high rocky cliffs, and isolated islands. This striking landscape is steeped in history and there are few sights on earth that compare with Bamburgh Castle and its expansive and exposed bay side setting. A host of conservation sites, including two National Nature Reserves, testify to the great variety of wildlife and habitats found in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This attracted Jez Fellick to attempt the 35.3 miles which he duly completed in 4:56 for a great 7th place. |
