Wallasey win team event



Last Saturday saw the last of the league races here on Merseyside and Wallasey A.C. as hosts took their share of the honours.

In the first race for boys over a two mile course, the individual winner was A. Gerrard, Liverpool Harriers, who won in 12 mins. 23 secs.; Pilkington Recs, took the team title with 34 pts. followed by Wigan A.C. with 35 pts. Wallasey boys' 'A' team were third and the 'B' team finished 4th. Wallasey placings were Alan Bell (4th), Robin Tarrant (11th), David Burns (making a welcome return to running) 14th, and Les Watcham 15th. This gave our 'A' team a total of 44 pts. The 'B' team scored : David Adair (20th), Teddy Potter (who was the youngest runner in the field) 24th, and Colin McDonald (27), Bobby McCaig was our last man home in 28th position.

The Youths' race, over three miles, was declared 'no team' as there were only 12 runners, and Wallasey's lone competitor, Brian Thackray finished 9th behind winner D. Irvine of Wirral A.C.

Wallasey A.C. won the senior race over 7 miles by virtue of their early placings. Ron Barlow (2nd), Brian Woolford (4th), Kevin Mather (6th), Roy Parry (12th), Brian Chalton (15th), and John Young (34th), were our six counters to total 73 points. Wirral A.C. were 2nd with 102 pts. and Liverpool H. 3rd with 146 pts. The individual winner was Bob Medows, Sutton A.C. (and an international), and Wallasey's other runners placed: Nigel Thompson (a junior making his debut for the club) (41st), Mike Teahan (57th), and Tony Parry (69th). The winning time was 37 mins. 20 secs., and Ron Barlow's time was 37 mins. 31 secs., 20 yards behind the winner. Today there is a club run from the H.Q. in Leasowe Road, meet 2.30 p.m.
