Pte. R. Barlow, 41 Pasture Road. Moreton, was third in the Army Cross-Country Championships, at Crookham, Aldershot, last Friday.
Fourteen teams took part in the championships representing all Army Commands in Britain and Germany and (was won by the Depot of the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment. for the second year in succession. It was an overwhelming victory, the Cheshire Regiment losing only 90 points.
The course at Crookham was a hard one over six and a half miles. The ground was very muddy and the going tough. At the half-way stage of the event the Cheshires were well placed and victory seemed probable. Pte. Ron Barlow (Wallasey Athletic Club). Pte. W. Cooper (East Cheshire Harriers) and Pte. M. Corcoran (Macclesfield Harriers) were well to the fore and amongst the twelve leading runners.
At the finishing tape the Cheshire Regiment team ran in almost as a bunch, the last man to count Cpl. D. B. White of Wallasey Athletic Club, being only 21st.
