On Easter Monday, Wallasey Athletic Club send three teams to Sale for their annual 8 x 1½ miles road relays.
In the under-14 age group, there are 35 teams entered and running in red for Wallasey will he Ian Wilson, Mike Potter, and David Caw. The under-15 team will have Roy Kay, John Jones and Dave Lockley, and they have to beat another 25 teams to win. In the under-18 race, John Adamson, Barrie Smith and Alan Keating are entered in a field of 30 teams.
The Sale relays see the end of cross-country and road racing, and all efforts are now directed towards track and field events. The track is to be laid at Leasowe Road playing fields during the Easter period, and normal track distances will be the aim from today, with sprints, interval running and Paarlaufs (pairs running) playing an important part.
Track athletes not already in training will find themselves at a disadvantage if they delay their start much longer and an invitation is extended to any newcomers wishing to join the club.
With something like 16 events in the track and field calendar to choose from, there must surely, be an event here for anyone, whether he or she be fat or thin, tall or short and if they have never tried athletics they don't know what they are missing.
For their final competition the netball team are entered in the American tournament on May 1. This is an exciting form of play with each team playing all the others and a time limit of 5 minutes each way.
