Ron Barlow 30th in international race

Wallasey Athletic Club's' Ron Barlow, ran as a member of England's cross-country team last Saturday in the tough Martini race held near Brussels in which 32 countries enter their top 6 runners.

It can to be seen that from a field of such quality a 30th place is no disgrace, although I do know that Ron Barlow was dissatisfied with his personal performance on a day when the English team disappointed as a whole, only finishing in 3rd position.

Wallasey send three teams to Warrington today for the 4 x 1 mile cross-country relays, There is one team entered in the youths' race consisting of Barrie Smith (capt.), Alan Keating, Robin Tarrant and either John Adamson or Mike Mason. The boys have two teams entered and 'A' and 'B' teams will be selected, from Les Watcham (capt.), Dave Lockley, John Jones, Bobby McCaig, Dave Adair, Paul Spencer, Roy Kay and either Mike Roach or Mike Wealtherilt. With 26 teams in the youths' trice and 37 in the boys' race the officials will hive their work cut out recording and timing such a large. We wish them and the rest of runners the good fortune.

Following on a league win in which they went undefeated, the girls' section brought off the double in local netball by winning the Elizabeth Williams memorial knockout shield when they beat Cadbury's Youth Club by 17 pts. to 7 in the final last Saturday. It has now been decided to enter teams in both the Cheshire and Wallasey leagues next season.
