Members of Wallasey Athletic Club went to Denbighshire last Sunday to compete over the 3-mile hill course at Foel Glap. Brian Woolford broke the course record in a time of 14:58, and Dave Lockley completed the course in a personal-best time of 15 mins. 19 secs.
Johnny Jones's time .was 15 mins. 32 secs. Behind him were Barry Smith, 15 mins. 53 secs.; Doug Hanna, 16 mins. 54 secs.; Paul ,Lewis, 18 mins. 55 secs.; Alan Kin, 18 mins. 32 secs. and Ian Wilson 21 mins. 8 secs.
Carl Gee won the handicap race with an actual time of 18 mins. 44 secs. John Young started late and did 18 mins. 15 secs. on his own.
In the Port Sunlight 15 miles Road Race, Brian Woolford ran an excellent race to finish 3rd in 79 mins. 51 secs. First was Hopkinson of Rochdale 78 mins. 53 secs. and second Phipps of Sale, 78 mins. 55 secs. Len Durkin finished in 14th position out of a field of 32 starters.
At Kirkby last Tuesday, Barry Smith ran a personal best mile of 4 mins. 26.3 secs. in the senior mile. Doug Hanna also did a personal-best of 4 mins. 43 secs., as did Alan Keating, who completed the course in 4 mins. 41 secs. In the 220 yds. Alan Kin was third in 24.4 secs. The youths' mile also provided a personal-best for Dave Lockley, his time being 4 mins. 33.7 secs. John Jones did 4 mins. 37.5 secs., Melvin Schless, 4 mins. 46.8 secs and Ian Wilson 5 mins. 20 secs.
