Ron Barlow, Wallasey Athletic Club's foremost runner did well in the two-mile team race at Stretford, Manchester, on Saturday. He was the first of the club's runners home in 11th position.
His time of 9 mins. 31 secs. compared favourably, with the winner's time of 9 mins. 6 secs by Ron Hill of Bolton United.
Other Wallasey Club members in the race were Brian Woolford (14th place) in a personal best time for five years or 9 mins. 36 secs.
Doug Hanna did his personal best time for the two miles of 10 mins. 14 secs. finishing in 25th position. Alan Keating was 33rd in 10 mins. 32 secs. and Carl Gee 37th in 11 mins. 58 secs. The team was comprised of Ron Barlow, Brian Woolford and Alan Keating.
Dave Lockley won the 1,000 metres steeplechase by 50 yds. in a time of 2 mins. 53 secs.
On Wednesday the Club is holding the annual general meeting at club headquarters at 7-30 p.m., and all members are urged to attend. Today, there will be a run from club headquarters in preparation for the forthcoming road-relay and cross-country season.
