When the inter-counties meeting is held at White City, London, on Saturday July 2nd, Cheshire's colours will be worn by Wallasey Athletic Club members Barry Kivlin (120 yards hurdles and 440 yards hurdles) and Matt Smith (hop, step and jump).
Last Saturday, Kivlin ran second by a yard to Birrell, the Barrow Grammar School and British Olympic hurdler, in the 120 yards hurdles at Crewe L.M.S. Sports, which was won in 16.5 seconds, a much faster time than Birrell returned at the Whit Monday meeting at Upton. Inches only separated Kivlin from Smith when the former won the Cheshire County hop, step and jump on Whit Saturday at Port Sunlight,
Competing at the Dunlop (Speke) Sports Gala last Saturday, Tony Dickinson of W.A.C. (off 190 yards) again ran well and showed good judgement to take second place in the open handicap mile to Mick Maleedy (Sutton Harriers), the cross-country international. Ramsey Hewson (off 4ft. 6in.) jumped 22ft. 6in. to gain second place in the open handicap long jump.
