At Earlstown Viaduct sports meeting last Saturday Tony and Denis Dickinson of Wallasey Athletic Club, again kept the familiar red vest well to the fore. Back marker off 130 yds. in the mile, Denis started too strongly and had caught the field by the end of the second lap, when Tony was also among the leaders.
However, the initial effort, robbed Denis of a strong last lap and he finished 6th behind his elder brother in 4th place. Tony also secured 3rd place in the half-mile and Matt Smith got through to the semi-finals in the 220 yards.
The equipment position of the weight lifting section of Wallasey Athletic Club has been considerably strengthened this week by the generous gifts of barbells and weights by Messrs. Ted Bromley, Bill Brookes and Barry Brookes, to whom the club in deeply grateful.
Club members are reminded that the club track and field championships will take place at the Leasowe Road Playing Fields next Saturday, August 27, and medal awards will be made on the decathlon scoring table. The annual general meeting, will be held on Thursday, September 22, and nominations for next season's officers in writing should reach the hon. sec. Ron Hubbard, 39 Beech Road, Birkenhead before Saturday, September 17.
