Last week was a notable one for members of Wallasey Athletic Club.
On Tuesday, the finals of the Liverpool Parks & Gardens championships were held at Wavertree Recreation Ground, where outstanding successes were recorded by Ron Barlow, who won the senior 3 mile open championship (although still a junior), and Carl Gee who won the discus title with. 118 ft. 5 ins. and the shot with a meeting record of 37 ft. 4 ins.
Saturday saw a number of the club at the Widnes Police sports, where Carl again was the winner of the shot (handicap); and on Monday at the Liverpool Co-op, Bank Holiday sports Kevin Mather won the handicap 880 yds.
TODAY'S INTER-CLUB
The last of the season's big inter-club track meetings takes place today at Port Sunlight Oval (start 2 p.m.), and strong teams have been entered from Wallasey for both the senior and junior competitions. The teams are:
Senior: R. Wood, M. Price, R. Fullerton, K. Mather, P. White, J. Wright, D. White, I. McIvor, R. Owen, R. Lancaster, M. Smith, L. Platt, H. Pritchard, J. Winrow, J. Lynch, C. Harris, C. Jones and C. Gee.
Junior: D. Noble, W. Morris, P. Townsend, A. Townsend, R. Barlow, B. Chalton, R. Knowles, J. Young and A Farrell.
Complete teams in both groups are expected and should improve on the club's placings of last year.
