Wallasey Schools Championships (cross-country) will be run this Saturday from the club's Leasowe Road headquarters, when the schoolboys race will be the main event.
The race will be run over 2¼ miles commencing at 3-40 p.m. approximately, when fifteen teams numbering over 100 runners will be sent on their way by starter Mr. H. R. B. Wood.
There will also be a youths event over three miles, commencing at 3-15 p.m. and prizes will be awarded after the events at 4-15 by the Mayor, Ald. W. O. Hannaford.
As many Wallasey A.C. members as possible will be required as course stewards and should report in good time to club captain Bob Johnston, and for those who wish there will be a club run when the races are completed.
The main event next Saturday is the popular Waterloo Road Race run over a six-mile course when the field will include many of the north's finest athletes.
Wallasey Athletic Club members travelled to Court Hey last Saturday for an inter-club fixture against Liverpool Pembroke which resulted in a victory for the home team.
Although most runners were not inclined to race hard at this early stage of the season Pembroke, in placing the first four men home, showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with when the championships come along with the individual winner K. Gates likely to be the biggest threat to our own Bob Johnston and international Johnny Green of Wirral so far as the Merseyside area is concerned.
The senior Liverpool & District championship last year was, of course, won by Wallasey's Bob Johnston in his first season as a senior runner.
Wallasey's scoring runners were Bob Johnston 5th, Alan Clarke 13th, Arnold Dinsdale 22nd, Eric Foster 24th, Colin Harris 25th, and Ray Scammell 26th,
li was good to see an old friend in Arnold Dinsdale who although now resident in Waterloo, is still a first claim member for Wallasey and hopes to be available in the championships.
