Wallasey Athletic Club is showing its colours again after a long rest from the cross-country season. There are sports meetings almost every week now and Wallasey is kept well represented.
The most notable meeting recently was the inter-county championships at White City, when B. 0. Kivlin (Wallasey A.C.) represented Cheshire in the long jump and the hop, step and jump. Cheshire athletes put up a fine fight for their county, although they were without the aid of Alan Pennington in the sprints.
Training runs are taking place occasionally along the promenade, but the keener members are going out to the Liverpool Police training ground at Fairfield on Wednesday and Friday evenings. This is to be recommended, for, until local facilities are ready, it is very necessary in the meantime to keep in tip-top trim, and the Fairfield ground provides equipment for every branch of athletics and field events.
There are several notable meetings in the near future which all interested in athletics are looking forward to.
To-day Seaforth Police Sports are being held at Bryant & May's Athletic Ground, Moss-lane. Wallasey Athletic Club, besides having several individuals running, has entered teams for the Mile Relay and the Two Mile Team race.
Relay
410 yds., C. R. Hewson.
220 yds., R. Shields.
220 yds., B. O. Kivlin.
880 yds., N. I. Marples.
Two Mile Team race - four to run :
G. K. Andrew, D. Grisdale, R. C. Leach, N. I. Marples, and A. P. R. Watson.
These men are up against the champions of the North Liverpool Pembroke and Sutton Harriers, both of whom have international runners in their teams. This is the first entry as a team for the season, and it will give Wallasey a good idea where they stand.
Next Saturday Wallasey A.C. take part in the Liverpool Police Sports and the following week they will be represented in the Northern Counties Championships.
