Last Saturday was the official opening of the cross-country season, the monster meet of all the clubs affiliated to the Liverpool & District Cross-country Association being held from the Lamb Hotel, Wavertree.
Two hundred and eighty-eight runners turned out, and it was indeed a fine sight to see the many coloured jerseys in the bright sunlight. The runners were divided into two sections, Seniors and Juniors, the former being for those who have won prizes in open competition. Wallasey had representatives in both sections. All the men went off together and thoroughly enjoyed an easy run over about six miles of good country prior to a race over the last mile. The Seniors' race was taken first. E. Plant, of Wallasey, was thought to be a likely winner of this, while it was felt that C. H. Spence, also of Wallasey, who was third last year, would be well up. Plant proved an easy winner, arriving home thirty yards in front of the second man, J. Roberts, the famous Sefton Harriers, Spence was the fifth man home. To place two men in the first five is a very creditable performance, an speaks well for the club.
To-day there is an ordinary run from Headquarters, Fairhaven Institute, Seaview-road, at 3.30 p.m. prompt.
