Cross-Country

The above club held their annual Club Championship Race last Saturday over a course of seven miles.

Trail was laid by J. D. Jones, W. D. Band and one or two others. There was a very good race, but the event was spoiled somewhat owing u the fact that E. Plant, who was decidedly the favourite, was unable to compete owing to having contracted blood-poisoning. This was very unfortunate indeed, and all hope that he will soon be able to turn out again. R. Young, who was champion last year, again finished first, and so retains his title, while T. J. Brookes, runner-up last year. again finished second. F. L. Thornton who, up to last week, had not run up to his last year's standard, showed that he was returning to his old form by finishing third, beating P. Scott by two seconds.

The surprise of the day was L. D. Baker, one of this year's novices, who finished sixth, and was placed first in the Sealed Handicap. Baker only joined the club a few weeks ago, but with training he will make a verv useful man.

he first six men to arrive were:

1.-R. Young 40min. 28sec.

2.-T. J. Brookes 40min, 51sec.

3.-F. L. Thornton 41min. 48sec.

4.-P. Scott 41min. 50sec.

5.-H. R. Scoins 42min. 43sec.
