Homecroft Athletic Club

Richmond Harriers were the guests of the above club on Saturday last, when an easy five mile course was taken from Manor-road via the Central Park, Wallasey Church and Warren Drive to Molyneux Drive, at which point the teams lined up for the usual mile, along Seabank-road to Manor-lane. Both clubs were well represented, for though the respective musters, especially that of Homecroft, were comparatively small, they nevertheless included their most useful men.

The first man to finish was Barley (Homecroft) who cantered home an easy winner from Cowell (Richmond) by same forty yards. The rest of the placings are illustrative of the gentle art of "packing," for whilst Richmond took the positions of second third and fourth, Homecroft annexed the succeeding four. The full count was as follows:-

Homecroft. Richmond.

J. B. Barley 1 G. Cowell 2

S. L. Brookes 5 E. E. Jones 3

H. Rothery 6 H. Saunders 4

W. S. Brookes 7 A. Peacock 9

C N. Hudson. 8 T. Hall 10

T. Lyall 13 D. Punton 11

40 39

It will thus be seen that Richmond won by one point, a near shave, indeed; and no disgrace to the homesters.

The runs of the local club for the next two Saturdays will take the form of ordinary practice spins from the Y.M.C.A., Manor-road, at the usual hour of 3.30 p.m., to which new members are specially invited.

Commencing on the 6th prox. with Edgehill Harriers as visitors, Homecroft have a somewhat formidable list of engagements extending over a period of eight weeks, and this is one of the reasons why the attention and attendance of new recruits is earnestly desired. A hearty welcome and an anxious secretary are waiting for them.
