Last Saturday the members of this club received a visit from their near neighbours, Liscard Congregational Harriers.
A start was effected under most propitious circumstances at four o'clock, and a journey of about four miles was made via Manor-road, Wallasey Village, and Warren-drive to Seabank-road. The clubs then lined up for the usual mile break to Manor-lane, where, a goodly assemblage lay in waiting for their arrival. The contest was something in the nature of a local Derby, and as the teams were very evenly balanced, no little speculation prevailed as to the result, which eventually proved to be a tight victory for Homecroft. The placings were as follows:-
Homecroft. Liscard.
J. B. Barley 2 A. G. Nicholson 1
H. Rothery 11 W. Lace 12
36 42
To-day (Saturday) Homecroft will hold their first handicap. A good entry has-been made, and three valuable prizes are offered. The route is from Manor-road, Withens-lane, Martins-lane, through the Park, Mill-lane, through the station, Breck-road, Wallasey Village, Grove-road, Warren-drive, to the station, St. James-road, and Seabank-road to Manor-lane, about five miles in all. The handicap runs out to three minutes, and a start will be effected at 3.30 prompt.
