Homecroft Athletic Club

On Saturday last this club received Liverpool Protestant Reformers Harriers at its headquarters, Manor-road.

Both clubs mustered well, although each lacked several of their best men. A start was effected about four o'clock, when some forty runners took to their heels. The pace was of a comfortable nature, and a distance of about five miles was covered by way of Manor-road, Belvidere-road, Wallasey Village, Leasowe-road, the Golf Links, Grove-road and Warren-drive to the top of Rowson-street. Here the teams lined up for the usual mile break along Seabank-road to Manor-lane. The contest was keen, and resulted in a win for the visitors by the narrow margin of eleven points. The following are the placings:-

Homecroft. Reformers.

J. B. Barley 2 W. Sablich 1

W. S. Brookes 5 C. Millington 3

E. E. Jones 7 R. Evans 4

H. Rothery 3 W. J. Lewis 6

S. L. Brookes 10 M. Shipley 9

T. Lyall 13 M. Carrigan 11

45 34

The greatest surprise of the day was the position of Barley; and when we take note that this was but his second time out, we may fairly term him "the stuff." Homecroft are to be congratulated upon unearthing such a promising novice. Yet this is only as it should be. It stands to reason that in an institution like the Y.M.C.A., among 200 or 300 young men, some latent talent lies hidden; and if the club can bring it to light so much the better. The Homecroft Club is, of course, open to non-members of the Association, and the Secretary will be glad if those wishful to join will communicate with him at once.

To-day (Saturday) an inter-club run is to be held from Manor-road at 3.30, the visitors being Liscard Congregational Harriers. New members are heartily invited.
