Runners raced through the Mersey tunnel to raise money for Alder Hey Hospital.
Some also raised cash for a memorial to nine men who died digging the underground route.
The Kingsway Tunnel was closed to traffic yesterday as more than 1,100 competitors ran from Pall Mall, Liverpool, to Wallasey, Seacombe md on to New Brighton.
The race marked the 25th anniversary of the tunnel opening by the Queen. Pete Glover, of New Brighton, was also raising cash to buy a memorial plaque to put up at tunnel vents at Seacombe .
In the end, the winners of the Kodak Mersey Tunnel 10k were Wallasey A.C. with neighbours Wirral second. Liverpool Running Club were third.
