The Chester Marathon route was described as both historic and scenic. Runners left Chester Racecourse and headed into the City centre passed the Town Hall, Cathedral, split level Middle Ages "Rows", Eastgate Clock, Amphitheatre and through the Roman Walls before heading out of the City across the Old Dee Bridge. The route then left Chester passed the Duke of Westminster's estate, through Pulford, before crossing the border into Wales and the villages of Lavister and Rossett, completed a small loop before entering the historic village of Holt. Then crossed the ancient Roman bridge at Farndon to return to England and the home stretch ran through Churton, Aldford and Huntington. On the way back into the City, runners passed the River Dee to finish in Grosvenor Park. Mark Carruthers led the Wallasey AC runners home in 3:02 and not far behing was Neil Toner in 3:06. Jane Brealey was first lady for the club in 3:53.
