Eight runners from the clun completed the Therme Manchester Marathon. Mike Green was the first home in 3:15, Alex Yem took over three minutes off his persional best with 3:27 and Jan McArd made her marathon debut with a great time of 3:32. Jan said "The miles and miles of training paid off and whilst there was no real plan, the plan worked! Fuelled by water and jelly babies and encouraged by the fantastic support along the way. An enormous thank you to my wonderful friends and family who not only gave up their day to come and watch and shout their heads off when they saw me but have also ran with me, offered advice and just put up with my marathon chat." Tim Plested also made his marathon debut and said "Wow that wasn't actually as hard as I'd anticipated it might be! The first half seemed to go swimmingly and all was well until about 19 miles (ish). I hit that wall that long distance runners will be familiar with and my legs started telling me that was enough for today. My calves were giving me some serious gyp as they always do around that distance and my left hamstring cramped mid stride and put me on the deck. That was agony as I lay on the floor desperately trying to relieve the cramp and get the use of my leg back. It started to pass and I was up on my feet again after a few minutes and whilst still very much there, I could walk again so I decided that I'd try to walk it off. I walked about a quarter of a mile and boom gone; just as fast as it came. That was a massive relief and I picked up to running pace and off I went - I was back in the game."
