The Ultra Wales 2022 was a mountain and trail race with 2898m of ascent and featured Cadair Idris Penygader (893m), the Rhinog Fach (712m), Dolgellau, the world renowned Barmouth estuary and the majesty of Wales' greatest forest, Coed-y-Brenin. The 50 mile race started and finished in Barmouth and Neil Toner made the trip and had an excellent run finishing in 11:59 for second place. Neil said "Toughest Ultra Run ever at Ultra Trail Wales today. I've worked hard the past 3 months and was in great shape and special thanks to Ronnie Staton for making my training enjoyable and challenging. I have a severe fear of heights and had to overcome this by simply carrying on and not look down. I worked myself through the field and finished 2nd overall. I broke 12 hrs over 54 miles and 11,000 ft of ascent. Absolutely buzzing and thank you to anyone who has commented on my training runs. I constantly posts. It helps me stay motivated. Last but not least my number one supporter Jess who met me at checkpoints and inspires me to be better."
