Pinnacle Ridge Extreme - Lake District
Open Races

Day - Saturday
Date - 19/07/2025
Distance - 17 Miles

The Pinnacle Ridge Extreme was described as a short, but exceedingly hard race that packed a massive punch, weaving its way around the Helvellyn Massif taking in some of the best lines, best scrambles and best descents. Vicky McConnell completed the course in 7:10. After the race Vicky said "17 miles - 2700m - I did another skyrace! I might be getting the taste for them. Enjoyed this one so much more than Snowdon. I didn't put any pressure on myself to 'race' it, I was just happy to be in the mountains moving fast (ish) on super technical terrain, acknowledging my privilege, whenever it got too tough, to even be able to partake in such an event.
Entries were pre vetted which scared me into thinking I wasn't worthy of entering and mightn't be good enough to even finish massive imposter syndrome (as always). But I did finish within the cut off and nothing terrible happened and I smiled most of the way around!
I absolutely loved the mixture of terrain from rocky ridges, steep scree descents, bog and wet feet, some more steep steep grass ascents, graded 1, 2 & 3 scrambles, bracken paths and fast fell racing ups and downs. It was absolute nails but I guess that's the challenge; having to be switched on for hours whilst exhausted is super hard but what a sick route, it never let up!
Highlights for me were the views off Catstye, the steepest grass incline I've ever crawled up to pinnacle, honestly if you saw it you wouldn't think it was possible and of course pinnacle ridge, what an awesome scramble to end an epic race!
Take aways: just need to get faster on the downs, it embarrassing how slow I am.
Big thanks to the guys from @scarpa_uk for lending me some race appropriate trainers, probably wouldn't have finished or worse, slipped off a cliff in my old battered trails!"
